Dr. Reena Karani is Professor of Medical Education, Medicine and Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai where she is also Associate Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education and Curricular Affairs and Director of the Institute for Medical Education. She completed her residency and chief residency in Internal Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and her fellowship, chief fellowship and medical education research fellowship in Geriatrics at Mount Sinai. She also received a Master of Health Professions Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Karani is deeply involved in educating learners at all levels. Dr. Karani has received many honors include the Sigma Xi Scientific Honor Society, Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, the John A. Hartford Center of Excellence Scholar, the National Award for Scholarship in Medical Education from the Society of General Internal Medicine and Master Educator from the Institute of Medical Education. She is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American Geriatrics Society. Dr. Karani is a member of the National Board of Medical Examiners.




Hand-in-Hand: White Coats for Black Lives

Maybe it was excitement that I was partaking in something greater than myself. Maybe it was guilt that I had not been closely following the nationwide outrage and responses to the Michael Brown and Eric Garner cases. But other than my dreaded neurology shelf exam that Friday, the White Coats for Black Lives Die-In was the most exciting thing on my calendar all week.
