Ashley Newsholme is a third-year medical student at Florida International Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine in Miami, Florida, class of 2025. In 2020 she graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in biology and a minor in dance. In her free time she enjoys cooking, reading, spending time with her animals, and volunteering at Camillus Health Concern for street medicine outreach. A Sacred Symphony
The once-sterile hospital room had become a sacred space, where the raw emotions of love and loss hung in the air. The young daughter, vibrant in her essence but tethered to life support, teetered on the precipice between existence and the inevitable.
Humanizing the ICU
The heart monitor beeped incessantly, and the pulse oximeter kept dropping to the 80s. I ran to get a nurse. He walked calmly into the room, straightened the patient’s finger and left without a word. The oxygen went back up to 98.
