Why so Koi?

I created this piece as a gift to a dear friend of mine. It serves as a reminder to me to always be grateful for friendship and family. Yin and Yang describes how obviously contrary forces may in actuality have complementary effects on one another. I feel like Yin and Yang provide balance for one another, kind of like how art has helped me balance out my life in the pursuit of medicine. This piece was painted with acrylic and drawn over with pen. I enjoyed creating it as it provided a meditative value, and reminded me to be grateful for my family, friends and the opportunity to go on this medical journey.

Florence is Chinese, was born in Colorado but spent 12 years of her life growing up in Bangkok, Thailand. From a young age, she has always been in awe of art and how a blank piece of paper can be turned into something so beautiful. Art has always been a way for her to view the world in a different perspective, and a tool for her to express herself. She loves mixed-media, and her most recent endeavors have been to merge her love for art and her passion for medicine as one.
